What is a carat?

A “carat” is a unit used to measure gold purity. For example, 24-carat gold is 100% pure gold; whereas 18-carat gold is 75% gold and 25% added metal (typically silver, copper, nickel and/or zinc).

Why is gold mixed with other metals?

Gold is a soft metal that is “alloyed” with other metals to make it harder. That’s why a lot of quality jewellery is made from 18-carat gold or 22-carat gold (not 24-carat gold) – for added durability.

Does Sell Any Gold buy any type of gold?

We buy gold ranging in purity from 9 carats to 24 carats. We don’t buy gold plated jewellery / items.

What is white gold?

White gold is an alloy: gold plus a light-coloured metal such as nickel or palladium.

What is rose gold?

Rose gold is an alloy: gold plus a red-coloured metal such as copper.

What is the difference between sterling silver and fine silver?

Sterling silver (also called 925 silver) is 92.5% silver and 7.5% added metal (usually nickel, copper or zinc); whereas fine silver is 99.9% silver (or pure silver). Sell Any Gold is interested in buying both sterling silver and fine (pure) silver in Canberra.
